If it worked in the UK, let's try it in the USA!

I read with great interest a letter from Amway UK in Feb. 2005 claiming that a page on my website stated that Amway was being investigated by the United Kingdoms Department of Trade and Industry.

Amway states for the record that there was no active DTI investigation as of Feb. 2005.  If you read my page I never said there was an investigation either.   I just said the DTI had lots of information and asked site visitors with Amway issues in the UK to write the contact at the DTI.   Low and behold two years later in May 2007 the UK's DTI has a full blown investigation and Amway even admits it.

Since we can always believe the upstanding and honest people at Amway, we must assume that there was in fact no investigation in 2005.  The Amway people would never lie to us.   They are in fact good, honest people.   We can trust what they say.   So the only logical conclusion is that after the posting of my page asking people to send the DTI information and complaints, that an investigation was subsequently launched.   This then proves one thing.  The regulators will listen to the public if they get enough complaints.

Amway and Quixtar and their motivational organizations have long escaped the wrath of the regulators since like every good cult, the victims are taught to blame themselves.  What the Amway victims don't know is that the business model taught by the Amway/Quixtar lines of sponsorship is bankrupt because there is not enough sales to support so many distributors.   As long as people don't complain, there are enough other scams out there for the FTC and the State Attorney Generals to keep their staffs busy.

So Amway has proved for us in this case that the regulators will listen if they get enough complaints.   I encourage you to write your  State Attorney General and the FTC stating how you lost money in Amway/Quixtar and how much you lost.   If you were told you did not need to retail products, or could easily and falsely state you retailed by clicking a button on the Quixtar website, let them know that too.    If you believe you could only make money by recruiting others to the scam, then point that out too.

Hey, if it worked in the UK it could just work in the USA too!  If you don't file a complaint to stop the scam, who will?

Start with the FTC then the Michigan Attorney General and then your State Attorney General.
